It's Not Egyptian But Definitely a Wonder Of The World
Yes, you think there would be no other similarities between the great egyptian pyramids and the Remote Area Power Source(RAPS) pyramid other than the obvious connection with geometry. But it is what is on top of the pyramid here at Futureworld that is a marvel on it's own. The humble Solar Cell seems incomparable to the wonder of the colossal monuments but in terms of the potential it can contribute to our society it could be as significant as the aquaducts were to the roman empire.
The earth receives enough energy from the sun everyday to power everything we have but such a minute quantity is ever harnessed. It's free and here in australia we receive such a large amount of sunshine each year it seems such a waste. Why don't we 'get with program' and utilise this vast resource? Well the fact is progress is being made all the time in solar power generation and a great deal of this is in solar cells.
The biggest hurdle with solar cells is cost and to a lesser extent efficiency. At the moment the capital needed to setup a solar array on the roof of the average home is significant, about $10000 to $15000. Of course after this initial outlay the power is free and any excess is fed into the power grid to supply other homes but it can take some time to recoup the initial investment. But with investment and research this gap between cost and affordability is ever decreasing. That's great news. The more of our power made through clean solar generators the better it is for our health and the quality of our lives.
So "What exactly do you have here on these little sun inspired marvels?", I hear you ask. Well if you're a bit of a solar buff and wanted to catch up on the latest or are a newcomer and wanted to know anything and everything there is, you're in for a treat. There are video presentations, all the facts you ever wanted to know as well as demonstrations, interactive games and programs that is bound to leave you fascinated and wanting to know more. We have a solar powered water pump so if you haven't had time to have a shower you can have one right here!!
Of course there is the RAPS pyramid which is found all over the more remote areas of our country providing much needed, clean power to our less fortunate settlements too isolated to have a connected electricity supply. You will just have the best time here with all of this stuff and although it won't inspire a jaw dropping, stunned awe in you like the great pyramids of egypt, to see these little wonders do what they do best, quietly acheiving a cleaner, healthier, better world for us will more inspire a quiet respect and admiration. |
